Happy summer! Okay, we know it’s not really summer yet, but didn’t Memorial Day Weekend kinda make if feel like summer?

How did you celebrate? We’re guessing bbqs were heating up for many of you. Speaking of which…

We started our summer celebration a little bit early over at The Peninsula Beverly Hills on their rootop pool area. Last week they hosted a media preview of their Weekend BBQ Series, otherwise known as BBQ with a View.

Of course, if a cabana isn’t your speed, there’s always seating at The Rooftop Garden restaurant.

Either locale, you can’t go wrong with BBQ fare from Executive Chef David Codney.

A frosty libation is the best way to start. Created just for the BBQ Series is Dragones Rocks — 100% Pure Blue agave silver tequila Casa Dragones Blanco with a twist straight from The Peninsula’s rooftop garden.

Something we especially love — you get to choose between Thai basil, fennel and heirloom lemon leaves. All these elements come together with the delicate citrus notes of Casa Dragones Blanco, along with hints of pepper and cloves.

“But what’s on the grill?!” you ask. You won’t be disappointed with this response:

Pabst Blue Ribbon™ Beer Can ½ Chicken with charred corn and cabbage cilantro slaw; American Kobe Style Brisket with iceberg lettuce, buttermilk and jardinière; Grilled Snapper with charred Roma tomatoes and local spinach and warm leek salad; and Chipotle and Coffee Rubbed Prime Tri-tip served alongside Chef Codney’s acclaimed house-made oak-aged sauce.


Not to be left out is dessert. What better to pair with BBQ than S’mores prepared tableside on a Hibachi grill, or a Banana Split, featuring cinnamon ice cream, tostones and rum-raisins, or Charred Peach Melba, served with a generous serving of buttermilk ice cream… We couldn’t decide between them. Lucky for us, there were sample sizes of several. Our suggestion: order one of each.

Our other suggestion: Grab your sunscreen, shades, hat and bring your appetite to The Peninsula Beverly Hills. There’s a BBQ underway!
