The cool thing about exercise? Well, there’s not just one, as witnessed by today’s post. What it’s talking about — hiking at the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery in San Simeon, California.
One of the best times to see the 17,000 Northern Elephant Seals that migrate bi-annually to the area for breeding, birthing and molting is December and January during birthing months.
Be on the lookout for docents dressed in royal blue coats. They’re on hand daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to fill visitors in on everything they ever wanted to learn about the Mirounga angustirostris. Arrive on certain Saturdays, and guided hikes are also in the mix.

Want to study up on these beautiful creatures you’ll be sharing the beach with? The Friends of the Elephant Seal website can fill you in with tons of factoids. Nothing, though, beats being there in person and communing with nature.
Now that didn’t sound like exercise at all, did it?
