Heartfelt Yoga

Yogi Marta Weiss of Yoga Naharah is always sharing her love with us (and green creatures encountered along sidewalks, as pictured above). So with the month of February being all about hearts, she wanted to deliver something extra special by way of yoga poses. A yoga duet, if you will.

“Grab a partner for these poses!” says Marta.

Up first, Couple’s Bharadvaja (pictured above). Says Marta, “The benefits of this pose are vast, from lengthening the spin, shoulder and hips, to relieving sciatica, lower back and neck pain. It’s also great for digestion.”
To get into the Bharadvaja, sit back-to-back on the floor with your Valentine or yoga buddy. In an easy, seated position, cross your legs.
Both of you should place your right hand’s on your partner’s left thigh, just above the knee. Place your left hand on your own right knee.
Inhale/exhale through the nose simultaneously. While inhaling, lift and lengthen the spine upward. During each exhale, twist the torso right.
Return to center and repeat on opposite side.

Ready to kick things up a notch, literally? Then you’re gonna love Navasana for Two (pictured above). Says Marta, “This pose strengthens the abdomen, hip flexors, and spine. It’s also great for relieving stress.”
To get into Navasana for Two, sit facing your partner.  Mirror one another by bending the knees and placing the soles of the feet together.
Next, grab your partners hands. Gently and gradually, move and pull back, lifting the legs at the same time until you go as far as you can in unison, feet still together.
Finally, “Coordinate your breath and smile as you gaze at your partner,” says Marta. “You can stay in Navasana for as long at you like!”
Thanks for these Valentine’s Day-worthy poses, Marta!
P.S. We heart you and your yoga knowledge!
