Been missing Art Love Mondays? Well, we’ve got you covered on a Wednesday.
Making things even more special — the Rohrbacher exhibition is Laura Korman Gallery’s opening exhibition.
Mirror/Mirror will be on display there from today through September 19. A date to highlight on calendars is September 5, when Mirror/Mirror hosts its public reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m..
As the name of the exhibition suggests, Rohrbacher is giving us a look into her psyche via self-portraiture. What’s waiting there? A glimpse at the artist’s past, present and future that converge at a crossroads where hope, beauty, melancholy and foreboding all exist.
Rohrbacher’s personal myth draws on reality and fantasy, by way of fairy tales and animal folklore.
Per the Laura Korman Gallery: “Rohrbacher’s portraits lead viewers on a tour of different facets of her identity. Color and pattern serve as vehicles of communication for vignettes of thoughts, memories, and experiences – a great source of which is Rohrbacher’s own daily experience with lupus, the commonly described ‘invisible disease.‘”
The question put forth by Rohrbacher through Mirror/Mirror — What does it means to create a truly accurate self-portrayal?
