Yes, coffee is more than just a delicious drink that will ensure you stay awake during you first couple of hours at work. A study conducted by the University of Eastern Finland, School of Medicine found that those who consume 3-5 cups of coffee a day had some positive effects on cognitive functioning, thus reducing the likelihood of one developing Alzheimer’s disease or dementia later in life.
Similarly, coffee has other health benefits including reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. In fact, a Japanese study conducted by Professor Akio Koizumi of Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, found that out of its 76,000 participants men who consumed 1-2 cups of coffee daily reduced their risk of death by cardiovascular disease by 38%.
Additionally, Harvard Researchers found that those who were long term coffee drinkers reduced their chances of developing type 2 diabetes drastically, while limiting sugar.
